Month in Review – May 2018 (Hindi Music)
OnRecord Staff · June 04, 2018 · 1 Minute Read
May was a big month for Hindi film music — and independent Hindi music, too! Vocalist Aastha Gill continued her rise, while the Veere Di Wedding soundtrack racked up the plays. We also had lots of fans rejoicing via social media when a modern classic, Fitoor, finally made its way to Saavn. Here, we recap the songs, albums, and artists that scorched the airwaves this summer.
Song of the Month
“Buzz” by Aastha Gill
“Buzz,” which released this month, is already the top song for up-and-coming Aastha Gill, pushing “Happy Happy,” which appeared in Irrfan Khan’s Blackmail, into second place. Gill’s smooth, sensual vocals are amplified by Badshah‘s typically fearless vocals and delivery. This is one for the club, and the car, and just about anywhere you feel like dancing!
Album of the Month
Veere Di Wedding
More than 9.5 million streams in less than a month made Veere Di Wedding the top album for May. The film, starring Kareena Kapoor Khan, Sonam Kapoor Ahuja, Swara Bhaskar, and Shikha Talsania, has delighted audiences across the world, while the music has been equally well-received. The star-studded leading ladies are matched by the all-star vocal lineup, including Sunidhi Chauhan, Neha Kakkar, Jasleen Royal, Divya Kumar, Arijit Singh, and Badshah. Major props to composers Shashwat Sachdev, Vishal Mishra and White Noise for this fantastic work!
Playlist of the Month
The summer heat hasn’t stopped our listeners from celebrating. The ‘Fri-yay’ playlist, featuring hits from Arijit Singh, Sajid-Wajid, Neha Kakkar, and Vishal Dadlani, soundtracked what we hope were some very memorable summer nights.
Fans demanded it, and we supplied it (with the help of our good friends at Zee Music, of course!) Fitoor, and its brilliant soundtrack by Amit Trivedi, was demanded by listeners via Twitter. When it finally arrived on Saavn, it was a happy day in May.
